ATLANTA – Police say a man was shot by a moped driver during a road-rage incident on Monday afternoon near I-20 in southwest Atlanta. Officers responded to reports of a shooting at Lucile Avenue and Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard around 2:45 p.m.
A group of men reportedly exited a pickup truck and assaulted the moped driver. In response, the driver pulled out a gun and shot at the men. He struck one of them.
The injured man was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, but his condition was not immediately known.
As the driver tried to leave the scene, the group attempted to follow him and hit a car in the process. The passengers in that car were injured and they were also taken to hospital.
Police continue to search for the moped driver. Spokesperson TaSheena Brown said investigators had not yet decided if they would charge the people in the pickup truck.
Road rage is an ongoing problem in Atlanta. Back in October Lucianna Fox-Reid, 44, was convicted of killing a homeless man after he refused to move his belongings.
Instead of driving her car around 54-year-old Leroy Midyette, Fox-Reid drove her vehicle into his cart. She then reversed and hit the cart again before driving off. Midyette confronted Fox-Reid while she waited at a stop sign. That’s when the driver got out of her vehicle and shot Midyette.
In another case, a road rage incident turned into an assault when a woman allegedly tossed a chemical liquid into another woman’s face. The attack occurred on Peachtree Street at its intersection with Spring Street.
The college student said she accidentally cut off the driver and was shocked when the woman threw the liquid on her.
