ATLANTA – Dekalb County Police have arrested a driver who they said hit and run resulting in killing a motorcyclist near the corner of Bouldercrest and Sugar Creek Golf Drive
and then sped away from the scene.
The victim was identified as 29-year-old Alvin Robinson. His family was hit hard by the sudden loss.
His fiancée Ariel Curtis said they were planning to get married next September but that went out the window when a pickup truck driver pulled out in front of Robinson near a gas station. The impact threw Robinson off his bike.
The driver of the truck left the scene immediately. Curtis said a stranger who was passing by tried to help Robinson but it was already too late.
She said the woman watched him take his last breath and told her he didn’t have any pain. That Good Samaritan attended Robinson’s vigil to pray with his family.
The family breathed a sigh of relief when the police caught the suspected driver. Sixty-three-year-old El Amin Muhammed is facing multiple charges including driving without a license, failure to yield, vehicular homicide, and felony hit and run.
Police identified Muhammed based on eyewitness accounts and surveillance footage. He is being held at the Dekalb Jail without bond.
Curtis said she found peace in knowing that justice will prevail and that her fiancé died doing what he loved.
Robinson’s family set up a Go Fund Me campaign to cover funeral expenses. Anything that is left over will be used to launch a non-profit to help cyclists who get injured and don’t have insurance.
